只是問一下 (10):這個名字猶如聖像?

天主教徒和傳統新教徒是否一對出生時遭分散的雙胞胎?
只是問一下。

新教徒說:「我們不敬拜馬利亞。你們天主教徒才會這樣做。」
「不,我們只是尊崇馬利亞。」

「我們不相信聖像有特殊的法力。」
「我們同樣不相信。聖像只是喚起我們活潑的記憶。」

傳統新教徒宣稱(確切點說,是大聲喊):
「但我們討厭人使用耶穌的名字。
而在任何莫名不安的狀況下,不管是身體、靈性、精神,還是社會的不安,我們都會呼叫那名字!
那名字就是權能!」
我發覺愈來愈多五旬宗信徒也一樣。

我只想問,這樣又與天主教徒向聖母馬利亞(St. Mary,耶穌的母親)或聖安娜(St. Anna,耶穌的外祖母)祈禱,有甚麼分別呢?

這不是要再次探討〈耶穌的名〉一文所提出的論點。
相反,這裡想問的是,在新教徒(尤其是五旬宗信徒)的意識中,這個名字是否等同聖像?

哪個名字?
「耶穌」?
肯定?
有聖經依據?

Just asking (10): Is this Name an Icon?

Are Catholics and Conservative Protestants twins separated at birth?
Just asking.

“We don’t worship Mary. You Catholics do.” Protestants would say.
“No we venerate only.”

 “We don’t believe there’s magic with icons.”
“Neither do we. Icons just call us to remember vividly.”

“But we abhor people using the name of Jesus.
And we speak that name over all malaises, physical, spiritual, mental and social!
The name is power!”
Conservative Protestants proclaimed, or more accurately exclaimed.
Increasingly I find Pentecostals do likewise.

I’m just asking how is it different from Catholics praying to St Mary or St Anna?

This is not to reprosecute the argument put forth in “The Name of Jesus”.
Rather this aims to ask if the name is as much an icon, in the mind of Protestants, Pentecostals in particular.

Which name?
“Jesus”?
Sure?
Bible grounded?

Just asking.
